The team has recently obtained a Cycling Canada Brand Team licence for the current season. It will be heading soon to Nashville, Tennessee, to attend a training camp and participate in its first race of the season. The team also intends to excel at the Grand Prix cycliste de Gatineau on June 6. Moreover, it hopes to receive an invitation to the Grand Prix de Saguenay and the Tour de Beauce, two UCI races.
The Santé Universelle // Marin Bikes Cycling Team consists of 8 elite riders, including:
- Jean-Sébastien Perron (Gatineau, Québec)
- Émile Jean (Trois-Rivières, Québec)
- Robert Ralph (Montréal, Québec)
- Ben Andrew (Gatineau, Québec)
- Shawn Clarke (Gatineau, Québec)
- Anthony Barrette (Gatineau, Québec)
- Robert Hargrove (New Westminster, British Columbia)
- Daniel Parkman (Tucson, Arizona)
As part of its development program, the team will mentor Olivier Lapointe, a promising 17 year old. It will also support Kevin Frost, a visually-disabled athlete, who will join forces with his tandem pilot, Jean-Sébastien Perron. They will attempt to secure a position within the national team for the next Parapan American and Paralympic Games.
In addition to partnering with Marin Bikes California and other supporters, the team is sponsored by Santé Universelle, a high profile multidisciplinary health centre in Gatineau specialized in sports medicine. Santé Universelle’s co-owner, Marie-Claire Holland, wishes to provide a support system to the region’s elite athletes.
“For over 25 years, Santé Universelle has been establishing partnerships with several sports associations in the region,” says Ms. Holland. “We are proud to be Cycling Project 2015’s main sponsor. The passion demonstrated by the team’s management is highly contagious. The project also fits perfectly with our High Performance Program. As cycling is a sport accessible to people of all ages, we feel this project is an excellent way to solidify ties with the Outaouais community.”
As soon as the weather is a little milder, you will be able to spot the Santé Universelle // Marin Bikes Cycling Team on the roads.
