January 26, 2006 – Lithuanian cyclist Raimondas Rumsas received a four-month suspended prison sentence from the court in the village of Bonneville, France today.
Both Rumsas and his wife, Edita were charged and convicted for doping after he finished third in the 2002 Tour. It was later revealed that Mrs. Rumsas was smuggling drugs for him to use.
Further to the suspended sentence, they were each fined 3,000 euro. The Polish doctor that prescribed and arrange the drugs, Krzysztof Ficek, was given a 12-month suspended sentence.
