Robert W. Cameron Law Cycling Series – May 28-29 – $10,000 Elite Field Prize Purse

The two-day series, part of the Victoria International Cycling Festival presented by Harbour Air, features 2010 Tour de France seventh-place finisher, and Victoria’s own Ryder Hesjedal, who will be making an appearance at the Kona/Russ Hays Time Trial on Dallas Road and riding with the kids at the Tim Hortons Timbit Challenge.

Cameron Law Corporation is extremely excited to be title sponsor of Victoria’s number one bicycle racing event,” said Bob Cameron, series title sponsor and competitive cyclist. “Our law firm has a long history of involvement with cycling as event sponsors and advocates for athletes, injured cyclists and cycling advocacy groups. This year’s event promises to take our sport to the highest level ever witnessed in cycling-mad Victoria. We are also proud to be associated with the Victoria International Cycling Festival weekend featuring Canada’s international racing sensation Ryder Hesjedal.”

Local Victoria fans will be thrilled by a rare appearance of Ryder attending the Kona/Russ Hays Time Trial, May 28th at 6:00 pm. He will also join kids aged 5-10 in the Tim Hortons Timbit Challenge, May 29th for laps around the Bastion Square Grand Prix Circuit. Participation in the Challenge is limited to the first 150 entries – all participants receive a t-shirt, medal, water bottle and other goodies. The best part: it’s all free!.

The 19th Annual Condo Group Bastion Square Grand Prix will also feature a $10,000 overall prize purse for Elite men and women’s races, doubling the overall prize money that was offered in 2010.

“This large prize money purse will attract bigger names from across Canada and also bring Elite racers from the United States,” says Race Director Jon Watkin, “We expect a truly international calibre of athletes this year.”

The weekend events feature:
– Kona/Russ Hays Dallas Road Time Trial, Saturday, May 28 – an out-and-back 5 km fast and flat race against the clock on Victoria’s picturesque Dallas Road Waterfront. The racing starts at 6 p.m.

– Condo Group Bastion Square Grand Prix, Sunday, May 29 – the perimeter of Victoria’s sleepy historic Old Towne comes alive with criterium action, starting at 8:30 a.m. and continuing with the women’s elite race at noon and the men’s elite race at 1 p.m. Category racing also include a high school race.

– Tim Horton’s Timbit Challenge, Sunday, May 29 (10:45 a.m.) – a crowd and kids’ favourite, children aged 5 to 10 ride a lap of Bastion Square alongside Ryder Hesjedal and other cycling greats.
