Cycling the Pacific Ring of Fire is an ambitious “cyclo-volcanic” quest circumnavigating the globe’s largest ocean in three stages – a full circle journey encompassing some 50,000 kilometers.

By “volcano-hopping” around the Pacific, meeting its peoples, climbing to the summit of some of its “live” volcanoes, and trekking around others while getting acquainted with local cultures and landscapes, these two nomadic cycling adventurers set out to encounter and learn about volcanoes along the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire.

Along with feature articles in every second issue of Pedal, they will provide reports at pedalmag.com to keep you up to date with their current journey – Ring of Fire Stage 3.

The first and longest leg of their “cyclovolcanic” quest was completed in June 2001: Vancouver, BC/Santiago de Chile…”volcano-hopping” for some 25 months and 25,000 kilometers! The second trip started in Chile’s capital and ended in Jakarta some 18 months later. While crossing the pacific they pedaled across some 30 islands of Polynesia, Melanesia and Indonesia.

The third stage has begun…
