Plastiglas Ontario Cup #6

August 14, 2007 (Elliot Lake, ON) – Elliot Lake welcomed over 320 enthusiastic mountain bikers this past weekend. Mt. Dufour and Elliot Lake provided riders with the most challenging race course on the circuit. Racers traveled to the top of the fire tower lookout, only to plunge down the far side of the mountain, which forced many riders to maneuver over the sharp rocks found in Elliot Lake.

In the Elite Men’s race Mike Garrigan of Epic Ride/Jetpower rode a strong race to claim the win, followed by Derek Zandstra of 3Rox Racing who double flatted towards the end losing the top spot. Impala Bicycle’s Ben Dawson finished in 3rd with a solid performance. Canada Cup Series Champion Amanda Sin of 3Rox Racing set a fast pace for the Elite Women’s win. Team R.A.C.E rider Emily Batty nearly matched the strong pace to claim 2nd less then a minute behind. Sue Trimble-Haviland of Norco rounded out the top three. 3 Rox Racing had another strong finish with Chris Everist battling his way to his third win of the season in the Jr. Expert field. In the women’s Jr. Expert field Emily Batty’s younger sister Charlotte Batty of Team Trek Store claimed her 2nd Jr. Expert win of the season.

We’d like to thank everyone who participated and supported the Plastiglas Ontario Cup during the last 3 years at Elliot Lake. Special thanks to Mt Dufour, the city of Elliot Lake, to the folks at NORDEV and Scott Reinhardt, the Canadian Ski Patrol, Allan Hawley’s timing crew, our staff and our title sponsor Plastiglas Industries.

We’d also like to thank all the sponsors who make this Ontario Cup Series possible including Norco Performance Bikes, Suarez Canada, Xilarate, Gears Bike Shop, Ecclestone Cycle, Pedal Magazine, Brodie, Yamaha, AO Bikes and Boards, HBCC, Cycle Solutions, Tifosi Eyewear, The Hub Bicycle Shop, Duke’s Cycle, Hardwood Hills, Reynolds Cycle, Misfit Psycle, Arrow Racing, Outpost Magazine, and the OCA.
