Pedal 100 Raises $27,000 for Heart and Stroke

release by the Heart and Stroke Foundation

August 19, 2010 (Port Dalhousie, ON) – The Heart and Stroke Foundation in St. Catharines would like to thank everyone involved for their help with the Pedal 100 event on Sunday, August 15. This year we raised more than $27,000 in revenue and we had about 150 riders participate in this annual charity event.

Although we did not raise as much as last year, our focus was to encourage each participant to raise funds to ensure more money is provided for research – last year only 60% of participants raised money. We succeeded in this goal as the average amount raised per participant increased to $180 compared to last year’s average of $141 and all participants raised a minimum of $100.

Overall the event day ran smoothly with plenty of food and supplies (thanks Audrey!), registration, incentives, volunteers (thanks Audrey & Jen) and SPARK volunteers as well (thanks Sue Turner). Audrey brought along a team of 8 volunteers that helped out in various ways and Marina and Livia joined us in the afternoon.

Our long-term operations volunteer John Helm really is the expert behind all aspects of understanding and facilitating the successful and popular cycling routes and the Rest Stations. We hope to provide John with much deserved recognition this year.

Once again Sara Belanger did a great job working with our summer student Audrey to put together another solid and successful event.

Thank you so much for your help with Pedal 100 for Heart and Stroke. We’d also like to thank and recognize our sponsors including 105.7 FM EZ Rock, NEWSTalk 610 CKTB, 97.7HTZ-FM and Pedal Magazine.

We look forward to seeing everyone again in 2011. For more information on the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s events and programs please visit www.fitforheart.ca.
