September 3, 2008 – The Ontario helmet law requiring children under the age of 18 to wear a helmets while cycling is helping save lives, reports Canadian Press. A study released on September 1 in Pedriatrics: Official Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, shows that Ontario’s cyclist mortality rates in children aged 1 to 15 decreased significantly after the law came into effect in 1995, which may be related to the law. The study used data over a 12-year period from 1991 to 2002.
