Ontario Cup DH #2

June 13, 2005 — The 2nd installation of the Ontario Cup Provincial DH series went underway this past weekend at Camp Fortune. Opening for full time weekend access this year the trail crew has put in some serious time and effort to create an epic race course. Many of the locals have been sessioning this badboy and breaking it in for weeks.

The weekend was one of the hottest on record with the Humidex reaching the low 40’s on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. But our faithful MC Kris “Brown”Somers made sure that the beats were flowing and that everyone was drinking lots of liquids and staying within their comfort zone.

All that heat and racing had most people traveling two minutes down the road to Meech lake for a much deserved cool down.
The race went at 1pm and the battle of Quebec and Ontario racers began. In the Junior Expert men it was a rippin field but Derek Cowell held them off with a 3-second gap on second place.

1. Derek Cowell, Ontario 2:42.580
2. Lee Boeyen, Quebec
3. Francis Paquet, Quebec

In the women’s field the wiley veteran Sheila Morris (former national team member), told them all by surprise and created an insurmountable gap of 16 seconds on 2nd place.

2. Genevieve Gagnon,
3. Annedore Bock, Ontario

But it all came down to the men’s field where crazy times were to come, Peter McLean of Sweet Pete’s/Primary racing broke the 2:40 mark even after losing his chain near the end of the course, his 1.3 second lead held off 2nd place finisher Charles Alexandre Dube and Norco Factory Team ripper Justin Brown was 3 tens of a second behind in 3rd.

2. Charles Alexandre Dube, Quebec
3. Justin Brown, Ontario
