April 27, 2017 – The Ontario Cycling Association would like to announce that Provincial Track Coach, Rob Good, has accepted a role as the National Elite Track Coach for Saudi Arabia. Although we are sad that Rob is leaving the OCA, we are excited for him as he pursues his coaching career with this new opportunity.  Rob has been instrumental in the development of track cycling in Ontario for well over a decade;  developing athletes, establishing clubs, and even building a velodrome.

He was formally hired by the OCA in late 2014, coinciding with the opening of the Mattamy National Cycling Centre [Milton Velodrome], in an effort to help build the capacity and quality of Ontario’s youth track program.  During this time, Rob lead the development of the Rising Stars and Excellence Track camps, which provided enhanced training opportunities for high performing athletes and created mentorship opportunities for developing coaches.  Rob was also responsible for bringing forward the ideas which formed the blueprint for the Teams of Ontario concept.  Through numerous discussions, and the efforts of Ontario’s youth clubs and coaches, this concept repaired a fragmented system and ensured Ontario put forward a collection of experienced coaches and strongest athletes in all team-based track competitions.  The results speak for themselves as Ontario’s U17 and U19 teams continue to achieve national success.  This includes recently breaking the Canadian record in the U17 Men’s Team Pursuit, U17 Women’s Team Sprint, and U19 Men’s Team Sprint at the 2017 Canadian Junior Track Championships.

Anyone who knows Rob understands his passion for cycling extends well beyond coaching. He has been a long-time event organizer for both youth and adult road and track racing, lent his voice [loud voice] to announcing, and volunteered on numerous committees over the years.  He is a coach that is truly “all about the kids” and someone the cycling community in Ontario will miss.

On behalf of the Ontario Cycling Association, its coaches, and athletes, we wish Rob the best of luck with his next cycling adventure and thank him for all the work he contributed to building Ontario’s track program.  We will miss you.
