OCA BMX Track Closed Due To Fire

August 8, 2006 — As the result of a fire, which has caused substantial damage to the observation tower at the OCA affiliated BMX Track, the facility has been closed until further notice. City of Burlington staff has made this decision in the interest of public safety. Staff will perform a further assessment of the damage and determine what remediation is necessary and can be done to re-open the BMX Track facility.

The fire largely consumed the two-storey structure and damage is estimated in excess of $10,000. The Burlington Fire Department suspects the cause is incendiary youth vandalism.

The BMX Track is adjacent to Nelson Park and Recreation Centre on 4235 New Street. The fire occurred at 2:34 a.m. on Friday, August 4 and there were no injuries reported. If you require more information on the fire, please contact Dave Cioruch, Chief Fire Prevention Officer, Burlington Fire Department at 905-333-0772, ext. 207.
