April 06, 2018 (St. Catharines, ON) – Although already on the third year of a project that began out of concern for cycling road safety in the Niagara Region and throughout Southern Ontario, the Niagara Cycling Club Alliance recently took another big step forward when the group officially established a constitution and set of bylaws for a non-profit organization to become viable.

NCCA logoThe NCCA comprises the six major cycling clubs of the Niagara region including the St. Catharines Cycling Club, Amici per la Vita Niagara Cycling Club, Niagara Freewheelers Bicycle Touring Club, Forza Niagara Cycling Club, Bikefit Sunflowers Cycling Club and the Short Hills Cycling Club.

Of special note, the NCCA is now able to offer associate membership. According to co-founder Wally Tykoliz, the organization would like to bring cycling-related businesses into the fold by offering access to their strong membership of cyclists. “It’s a unique marketing experiment and they’ll have a captive audience,” says Tykoliz.

The first official associate member of the NCCA is none other than Pedal Magazine, and Tykoliz is excited about the partnership. “We’re stoked to have Pedal come on board,” shared Tykoliz.

The main objective of the group, according to the memorandum of understanding shared with all the alliance members, is to “promote and advocate for safe cycling and cycling awareness within the Regional Municipality of Niagara,” in addition to goal around sharing expertise, education and special events including the second annual NCCA ride slated for later this year.

According to Tykoliz, the NCCA also has its collective cycling eye on the upcoming 2021 Canada Summer Games in Niagara and is looking to organize a “peloton of volunteers,” to help organize and execute the cycling portion of the national event.

“We have a real voice,” says Tykoliz. “This alliance represents the movers and shakers of cycling in Niagara. If there is something you need to know about tapping into cycling in Niagara, we can answer any and all questions. And the contact network is remarkable, somebody always knows somebody.”
