UCI MTB World Championships U23 Women/Men’s XCO Full Results – Rochette 9th, Caron 23rd

August 30, 2013 (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa) – Maghalie Rochette was the top Canadian with a strong 9th-place finish in the U23 Women’s XCO 23.5km race (5 laps) today in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa won by Jolanda Neff (Switzerland). Pauline Ferrand Prevot (France) was second followed by Yana Belomoyna (Ukraine) in third. Reigning Canadian U23 champ Frederique Trudel was 26th, Laura Bietola finished 27th and Andreane Lanthier-Nadeau was 28th.

In the 28.2km men’s 6-lap race Italy’s Gerhard Kerschbaumer took the gold with an average speed of 19.03 km/h and a 58s-margin over Julian Schleb (Germany) in second with Michiel Van der Heijden (Netherlands) in third. Antoine Caron lead the Canadians in 23rd.
