MTB World Cup #2 — Women\’s XC

May 8, 2005 (Madrid, Spain) – Gunn Rita Dahle (NOR, Multivan-Merida) was back on top of the podium after having to settle for second place in the series opener two weeks ago in Belgium, where Canada’s Marie-Hélène Prémont (CAN, Rocky Mountain-Business Objects) won.

Prémont placed second in round #2 at Madrid’s Casa de Campo, 42 seconds off of Dahle’s winning time of 1:42:49. The 36.9-kilometre race was fast and hot. Dahle was averaging just over 20 minutes per seven-kilometre lap. Many riders suffered due to the 30-plus-degree heat on a course that provided little shade. Sabine Spitz (GER, Specialized), the former World Champion, sped into third place, 1:07 back from Dahle.

Canada’s Alison Sydor (CAN, Rocky Mountain-Business Objects), who had to work her way through significant traffic at the start because she received a high start position after missing out on the first World Cup, finished seventh. Kiara Bisaro (CAN, Gears Racing) finished 18th, Trish Sinclair (CAN, Scott USA) was 25th and Sandra Walter (CAN, AdventureBound.ca) placed 45th.
