Mounties on Bikes Coming Soon

by pedalmag.com

April 1, 2011 – Following the success of introducing cycling patrols to police forces across Canada the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has decided to implement the concept and is currently in discussion with several suppliers to outfit their national police force for 2011. Many suppliers are interested in securing the prestigious contract as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is the Canadian national police service and an agency of the Ministry of Public Safety Canada.

“We’re excited about this new ecological and environment-friendly concept. Our officers are the fittest in the country and we may even start a cycling team down the road,” said an RCMP spokesperson in an official release.

The RCMP is unique in the world since it is a national, federal, provincial and municipal policing body. The agency provides total federal policing service to all Canadians and is under contract to the three territories, eight provinces (except Ontario and Quebec), serving more than 190 municipalities, 184 Aboriginal communities and three international airports.

Pedal has learned that special cycling helmets are also in the works to replicate the traditional and distinctive trademark Mountie hat.
