More on Canada\’s Perras Leading SunTour

October 13, 2005 – Although the domestic road season is over, the Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada Professional Cycling Team has kept its September momentum rolling into October, with Dominique Perras and Glen Mitchell taking part in the Jayco Herald Sun Tour in Australia and Ben Jacques-Maynes taking a break from baby duties to race a little bit of cyclocross.

Riding alongside Mitchell for a composite team assembled specifically for the 54th edition of the seven-day race held in Australia’s Victoria province, Perras is currently the overall leader after the fifth stage, in which he and former Tour de France Green Jersey winner Baden Cooke (Francaise des Jeux) went clear of a large lead group with 50km to go and held a 36 second advantage at the finish.

Although a course marshal’s error may have cost a chase group containing several contenders, Perras told Cyclingnews.com, “It was bad luck for those guys to go the wrong way, but I’ve had my bad luck in the past.”

With the final standings likely to be decided in tomorrow’s 11km time trial to the summit of Mt. Dandenong, things are looking good for Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada’s Canadian climbing specialist, who holds a 31-second lead over Australian Josh Collingwood.
