Longwood Brewery Criterium – June 17

It was a blustery evening so the back straight was a real struggle. The prime sprints and finish were very fast though. The first two primes were taken by Iain Hay, with the next two by Nick Kupiak and the final prime by Chris Cameron. Janna Gillick was always in evidence and got a second on the fourth prime so was given an extra point. In the final dash for the line, Iain cruised home half a dozen bike lengths of Chris who dogged Nick and Janna. A surprising fifth was Mike Gill who has been steadily improving over the weeks and is at last riding well up in the pack. The top six was rounded out by Paul Thompson. Despite tonight’s small field, the racing was aggressive and there were lots of abortive breakaway attempts. For once, nearly everyone had a go at stirring the pot.

In the youth categories, Aiden and Abigail Hare rode half distance, with Abby lapping her brother before taking the checkered flag.

Thanks again to our tireless volunteers without whom there would be no races.
