October 28, 2014 (Milton, ON) – Excitement is building as the Mattamy National Cycling Centre nears completion and is expected to open November 29. The spanking new world class velodrome is touted as a game-changer for the sport in Canada and the final push is on to reach its fundraising goal.

“Of the entire $56 million project, $14 million was coming from private donors,” says Howard Chang, Chair of the Make it Happen Fundraising Committee. “So far, $13.1 million has been raised through private donations, leaving the velodrome $900,000 short. We’ve already raised about $130,000 through the seat sale but there’s another two-thirds still to sell which would give us about $375,000.”

There are plenty of opportunities for individual donors to make their mark and contribute before the fundraising campaign closes at the end of 2014.

Buy a seat.  Become part of Canadian cycling history by having your name engraved on a spectator seat.  Only 1,500 seats are available at a cost of $250 each.

Buy a plank.  Own a piece of the track by purchasing a virtual plank for $25.  The virtual planks represent the actual number of planks used to build the velodrome and is an affordable way for anyone to get involved in the project.  In recognition, your name or dedication will be featured on the Centre’s website and in the lobby.

Name a seat section.  One of the few remaining major naming rights still available are seat sections.  For $15,000 to $100,000, depending on the size of the seat section, your name or company will be featured prominently above each seat section and on tickets.  Two-thirds of the seat sections are still awaiting owners.

Make a private donation. The Make it Happen website also provides an opportunity for private donors to make a donation in any amount they wish and remember – all donations are 100% tax deductible.

Chang says while the Mattamy National Cycling Centre has been the recipient of several major donors he hopes to see more members of the cycling community participate in making Canadian cycling history. “This isn’t just a velodrome…this is our national cycling centre and we’d like more everyday cyclists like myself to get involved.”
