Mike’s Bike Shop Cup – Week 12

August 20, 2008 – For the third consecutive week 17 year old Jean Richard Cormier of Dieppe took the sprint win in the Mike’s Bike Shop Cup Criterium race. Undaunted by the heavy rain, Cormier put in an impressive showing as he rode 41 laps in 45 minutes and outsprinted a group of 7 riders for his victory. As always, once the commissaire applied the race handicap, the winner for the night was Zuzana Ecerova followed by the youngest rider in the group, 13 year old Julien Roussel in second and 14 year old Andre Hebert with third.

Series leader Derrick Keith continues to hold his commanding lead with a total of 700 points. Second overall remains Mike Leblanc and an interesting tie for third has the young Jean Richard Cormier tied with his father Charles for third overall ˆ Charles will have to appeal to the commissaire for a substantial handicap coming into the BMX portion of the series if he hopes to get ahead of his lad as the young Cormier is undefeated in BMX action on the Subway BMX track this year.

The series takes a one week competition break next week but the Subway BMX track will be open for all series riders who wish to practice their BMX techniques as the following week the racing turns to BMX and many of the riders in the series have limited experience in cycling’s newest discipline.

The Mike’s Bike Shop Cup is a series of weekly races held on Tuesdays nights at 6:30pm. The series also includes BMX and cyclocross events to be held later in the summer and fall. The overall winner of the series will pick a charitable organization to which a donation from the registration proceeds will be made.
