Midweek Cycling Club News

May 31, 2005 – Hi everyone, The Midweek Cycling Club started its weekly Learn-to-Race clinics in 2001. During the first season, the number of participants varied from six to around twenty, with most of the riders coming from the master categories. Over the last four years, participation has steadily grown, with juniors, cadets and women swelling the numbers.

This year, we started off in mid April with forty-five people turning up for the first event, undeterred by the cold and wet. Participation has continued to increase steadily and this week a record ninety riders, including twenty-one women took part in the clinics and the following competition. Several juniors and cadets of both sexes in attendance.

The Club now has the problem, albeit a very nice one, of restructuring its Monday evenings to better serve all these new riders. By the way, this programme has been made possible with the help of rider coaches from a number of different clubs – Madonna Wheelers, D’Ornellas Racing, MBRC, KHS, and Gears Racing.

Special thanks should go to: Jeff Archbold, Aubrey Bryce, Otakar Dolozel, Craig Fagan, Amit Ghosh, Steve Hamilton, Bruce Krip, Ed Makarchuk, Ed Maset, Phil Moore, Peter Morse, Pierre Perrin, and others I may have forgotten. Among the graduates of the Midweek CC clinics are members of the Midweek Men’s team, Gears Racing, MBRC, and La Bicicletta Racing Team.
