release by the Midweek Cycling Club

April 12, 2017 (Toronto, ON) – The Midweek Criterium Series begins with the “Late” race on Tuesday, April 11th. The fast, non-technical course at Tahoe Boulevard and Buckhorn Crescent in East Mississauga has been the mainstay training race for GTA road racers for many years. Over 330 racers from 70 different clubs attended Midweek Criterium Series in 2016 and the number grows annually.

The “Early” race, beginning April 25th, provides up-and-coming athletes in the sport an opportunity to cut their teeth and gain racing experience in a safe, closed-road course. Early racers can upgrade to the “Late” race though their results.

The Women’s race made its debut in 2016 and is back beginning May 16th. This year the Women’s race will run for 12 weeks and is recommended for Elite 3, Masters, and U19 (Junior) women, plus U17 (Cadet) women who have previously raced an OCA Youth Cup.

New racers are strongly encouraged to complete Midweek’s ‘Learn to Race’ (LTR) program which begins Monday, April 24th. With almost 20 years of teaching riders how to race, coaches and experienced instructors conduct learn to race clinics, encouraging fun, confidence and skills training. The circuit LTR is closed to all traffic except LTR attendees. Clinics cover cornering, sprinting, pack handling skills, echelons, race tactics, bumping wheels, energy conservation, and more. Adult and youth riders are split into groups of similar ability to keep the sessions fun and safe.
