Medique p/b Silber Investments Selected for Coupe des Nations

release by Medique p/b Silber Investments

May 24, 2013 – It is with great pleasure that we accept our invitation to participate in the 6th edition of the Coupe des Nations stage race being held in Saguenay, taking place June 7th to 9th.

This prestigious stage race belongs to the Coupe des Nations U23 series, and is the only race in the series to be held outside of Europe. The best 19 to 22 year olds in the world will be representing their countries with the goal of earning precious UCI points, which will enable a country to send their riders to the UCI U23 World Championships. This race also provides a unique opportunity for local fans to see the future stars of cycling on home roads.

Six riders to take the start

Elliott Doyle will be the local favourite among fans at the race. With Junior National and Provincial titles in the Criterium, and a Junior Provincial Road Race win, all eyes will be on him.

“ It’s been a dream ever since I was a kid! I’m very happy to have been selected to do the Coupe des Nations! Ever since I was a Minime rider, I’ve been going to see this race and dreaming of one day racing it. Now I’m going! I’ll be able to race in front of family and friends. I also live very close to the circuits, so I’ll be able to recon the courses. ” Says Elliott, resident of Alma.

“ Being able to have Elliott at our race is wonderful for us. As well as being a local, he is one of the best U23’s in Canada and we’re very proud. ” Says Bernard Noël, president of the organizing committee.

Goals

“ The Coupe des Nations U23 race will give our riders an opportunity to test their legs against an international peloton. We have several riders who have already represented Canada and Quebec in major competitions. For example, Elliott Doyle won the Sprint Challenge and was 3rd and 4th at the Tour de l’Abitibi. Benjamin Chartrand represented Canada in Belgium last spring, and has had a top 10 at Abitibi. This year we’ve had a lot of success as a team and we are racing aggressively. I expect James Piccoli and Robert Ralph to be leaders, but in a sprint finish we will be riding for Elliott, who has proven to us that he can win at the elite level. He’s from Saguenay, so we’ll work for him. ” Says Scott McFarlane, DS.
