McQuaid Triumphs in Nevada

release by Sundog Active Sports Eyewear

May 6, 2009 (Lake Las Vegas, Nevada) – Canada’s Melanie McQuaid has done it again. The defending XTERRA U.S. Pro Series champion and three-time World Champion started the 2009 season with a win, the third year in a row that the premier athlete from Victoria, B.C., has won the season-opening XTERRA regional championship.

“I thought this was one of the hardest XTERRA races ever,” McQuaid said after her 23-second victory over Shonny Vanlandingham. “There was just no place to hide and no place to rest and not a second to catch my breath. I’ve never been more tired in my whole life. This is going to be a really exciting season.”

McQuaid collected $1,800 for her win in the gruelling event after covering the 1.5 km. swim, 30 km. mountain bike race, 11 km. trail run in 2:16:06. McQuaid is used to winning — she has won the XTERRA Triathlon World Championship in 2003, 2005, 2006 and the Canadian Championship five times — but this was her first triumph in her custom red Triathlon Interchange Active Sports Eyewear (ASE) by Sundog Eyewear.

“Another great win for Melanie, one of our outstanding Sundog Active Sports Eyewear (ASE) genuine performers,” said John Whitney, Sundog Eyewear Director Product Development “Melanie has a lot of input into the design of her glasses in areas like venting and tints, particularly given the incredible demands of her sport. We created a custom pair of red Triathlon for her and we are delighted that they were a part of her first win in 2009.”

It was a great start to McQuaid’s season, and an impressive debut for her new Triathlon Interchange Active Sports Eyewear.
