BC's Melanie McQuaid finished 9th after competing yesterday in the 2002 Nissan Xterra World Championship in Wailea, Maui Hawaii. The .93mile swim, 18-mile bike, and 6.8 mile trail run was won by American Candy Angle with a time of 2 hours 57 minutes. Second and third went to Jamie Whitmore and Shari Kain with times of 2:59:10 and 3:03:20 respectively.
McQuaid, a former National Team cyclist, was 2nd last year at the Xterra Championships. She was on the short list for another podium finish this year after a win in July at one of the series events and several top five finishes this season. She finished yesterday's race with a time of 3:11:01. See West Coast News.
