August 10, 2006 (Montr̩al, Quebec) РAlexandre Lavall̩e (Louis Garneau Optik) won round #9 of the 50 km Mardis Cyclistes de Lachine Saputo on Tuesday, August 8, for the second week in a row. Charly Vives (Calyon Litespeed) was second followed by Jean-S̩bastien Perron (Calyon Litespeed) in third.
After the race Lavallée commented, “I’m not a pack rider but rather a breakaway sprinter. In a breakaway you have to play your cards right.”
Despite Lavallée’s back to back victories overall series leader, Sébastien Moquin (Sleeman Clear Énergie), is in little danger of losing his yellow jersey. He holds a 138-point lead over his nearest rival, Martin Gilbert (Kodakgallery.com/Sierra Nevada).
Simon Lambert-Lemay (André Cycle id/Cad) won the 24-km Junior Lait’s Go Cup sprint finish with William Garneau and Jérôme Boucher, both of Elicycle Sports Experts, in second and third respectively. Lambert-Lemay, who is also the overall points leader for the junior series, said that this was the most enjoyable Mardis Lachine race yet.
The final and decisive stage of the Mardis Lachine series takes place next week, on August 15. And to make the event more suspenseful, points won next week will be doubled which could lead to some surprise victories.
The Mardis Lachine races, which date back to 1978, are held on a 1.61-km track around LaSalle Park in the Montreal suburb of Lachine with the juniors starting at 5:50 pm and the seniors beginning at 6:45 p.m.
