Mardis Cyclistes Saputo 2006 – Stage #7

July 26, 2006 – Martin Gilbert (Kodakgallery.com/Sierra Nevada) won the Mardis Cyclistes yesterday, his third victory in the series. Czeslaw Lukaszewicz (Sleeman Clear Énergie) came in second while Daniel Bélisle (Cinelume-Cycles Performance) took third. The 50-km race was very close and all breakaways were quickly reeled in by the peloton. The final spots on the podium were decided by photo-finish sprints.

The man in yellow, Sébastien Moquin (Sleeman/Clear Énergie), came in fifth. Moquin, who has been recovering from a bad fall, was merely attempting to “limit the damage” but must have breathed easier after the race. Gilbert’s win puts him within a few points of Dominique Rollin’s (Vélo Club Roubaix) who is in second. Rollin is not competing at the Mardis Cyclists races now as he has returned to Europe to race there.

In the Junior Lait’s Go series, Simon Lambert-Lemay (André Cycle
id/Cad) won Tuesday’s event and was accompanied by Hugo Houle (Vélocité Drummond) and Alexandre Morin (Independent-RP) on the podium. The three young riders occupy exactly the same respective positions in the overall standings.
