Marc-Wayne Addison Steps Down as Calyon Coach

February 24, 2008 (Montreal, QC) – Marc-Wayne Addison announced on Friday that he is stepping down after serving six years as Directeur Sportif of Team Calyon. Pedal caught up with Addison who shared these words with us:

“When I presented the project (to create the first UCI continental team in Quebec) to Gerard Panaroya back in 1999, it was with the intent of giving our Canadian riders another option to pursue their careers here instead of having to leave this country. We didn’t want to force riders to live far from their families and friends while being able to compete around the world. We worked with SEACO Jr. Canada and in 2002 and merged with Espoirs Laval (a major Montreal area bike team). This merger joined together with the management forces of Bernard Vives, Gerard and myself, putting our dream within reach! Along the way, we owe thanks to cyclists Martin Gilbert, François Parisien, Pierre-Olivier Boily and Christian Myers who worked with our organization and you know the rest of the story!

From now on, my wife and I will concentrate on managing another project in the world of cycling, but unfortunately this will not allow me the time necessary to continue my volunteer duties with Calyon. I depart with good memories of my time with the team and leave many good friends behind. M decision to leave Calyon wasn’t easy! To all Calyon athletes, the organization, sponsors, volunteers and the fans a big thank you and I wish you all success. To the current riders, especially the Vives brothers (Charly and Max) thanks a million for all the good times. In conclusion, a special thanks to all the readers of Pedal Magazine for following our story… and I promise you, this is not a good bye, but only an au revoir until next time.”
