Lawyer Killed While Cycling Across Canada to Raise Awareness

August 3, 2006 — As reported in the Toronto Star and other dailies Dugald Christie, a prominent Vancouver lawyer, who was cycling across Canada to raise awareness for equal access to legal assistance, was killed on Monday, July 31, after being struck by a vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway just east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

Christie, a well-known lawyer and activist, wanted Canadians to have access to lawyers and was to present a petition at a meeting of the Canadian Bar Association in St. John’s , Nfld. later this month before meeting with Prime Minister Harper. Christie is head of the Western Canada Society to Access Justice, where he has helped set up dozens of pro bono clinics in Western Canada.
