Lance Armstrong in BC for Tour of Courage

September 22, 2007 (Kelowna, BC) – Today Lance Armstrong led a small group of major fund raisers and friends on a scenic 80km ride through south Kelowna, starting at Kelowna Mountain. Joining Armstrong today were several other cycling notables including Phil Liggett, “voice” of the Tour de France, Johan Bruyneel, Discovery Cycling Team director sportif, Chris Carmichael, founder of CTS Sports and Armstrong’s personal coach, Canada’s own cycling legend Steve Bauer, recently-retired professional cyclist and Kelowna resident Axel Merckx, and Olympic gold medalist in snowboarding, Ross Rebagliati.

On Sunday, September 23, Armstrong will kick off the BC Cancer Foundation Tour of Courage Community Ride for cyclists riding 30, 60 or 90 km in support of blood cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency. The ride will begin and end at UBC’s Thunderbird Stadium followed by an informal picnic-style celebration on the stadium grounds. Armstrong and others including BC Premier Gordon Campbell, Kelowna-Mission MLA Sindi Hawkins, BC Cancer Foundation CEO Nick Locke, and BC Cancer Agency President Dr. Simon Sutcliffe will speak to the crowd.
