April 13, 2007 – We at Peter Brierley Memorial BMX / Kingston BMX race track are excited to announce that the Canadian Cycling Association has awarded the only UCI 3 event in Ontario (Kingston International) in 2007, The Kingston International race is a point qualifier race for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.
The “Kingston Can-Am International” will take place Saturday August 25th and Sunday the 26th 2007 at the Peter Brierley Memorial BMX Track at Woodbine Park( times to be determined). The race is expected to attract anywhere from 200-400 BMX racers from across North America, and will target the best riders in the sport.
Todd Harper, President of Kingston BMX and Event Organizer, says without the help of the Ontario Cycling Association (Nicky Pearson, BMX Coordinator) the Kingston Economic Development Corporation (Gary Kelly, Sport Tourism Manager) and our volunteers at Kingston BMX” our bid would not have been successful”.
Harper, says The event will be marketed as “the race to attend” we will be targeting the best BMX riders in North America to join our city for that weekend, and take in our beautiful surroundings.
The Kingston International will be the first Olympic points race held in Canada for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and it will mark the first time since 2002 that a UCI BMX race has been hosted in Ontario.
