Junior Track Worlds Report – Day 1

report by Rob Good

August 17, 2011 (Moscow, Russia) – Hi guys, we had a little excitement this afternoon as the Women’s Team Sprint team – Audrey Labrie (Quebec) and Allison Beveridge (Alberta) – qualified 6th in the qualification round. We were announced as the 4th qualifier with two relegations… however, they were over turned.  The girls were beaming at the thought of going for bronze but it was short lived as the final ranking were posted minutes later and there was disappointment for the next few minutes in the pit. We are over it and the girls are preparing for Thursday.

The Men’s Team Pursuit team – Jess Marans (LA), Alex Cataford (Ontario), Kyle Buckosky (BC), Joakim Albert  (Quebec) – had three riders sick all week and gave it their all and qualified in a very respectable 4:28.4…. right on schedule and we went the last 3 kilos with three riders, very gritty effort.

The last event of the day was the men’s Scratch race which turned out to be a very quick 10km competition and ended up being an endurance race rather than a sprint. Joakim Albert was entered in the event and was active during the contest and finished 13th in the final standings.

Racing resumes on Thursday with the Women’s sprint, Points Race and Men’s Omnium & Kilo.
