The Canadian Olympic Foundation (Foundation) is a national charitable organization created by the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC).  The Foundation’s Mission is to generate philanthropic support to meet the technical, scientific, medical and coaching needs of Canada’s high performance sport system and assist Canada’s athletes in becoming ambassadors for sport, healthy living and the pursuit of excellence across the nation.

The COF is seeking a National Development Manager based out of the Toronto office. The incumbent will report directly to the Executive Director and will represent the Canadian Olympic Foundation to donors across the country (excluding Quebec).  The role is responsible for the planning, implementation and execution of fundraising campaigns (including the Future Olympians Fund and Major Gifts), as well as developing a donor engagement strategy and implementing key donor acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship initiatives and strategies for major gift donors. The role’s focus is to grow the Foundation’s revenue by developing new and existing corporate and major gifts, and on strengthening relationships with donors in order to increase donor retention, gift size and quality of donor experience.

Core Responsibilities and Priorities:

  • Develop, in partnership with colleagues and the Executive Director, a fund development strategy with the goal of increasing organizational revenue and moving donors prospects from identification to cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and executing fundraising strategies to acquire gifts from new donors and to increase gifts from existing mid-level ($1,000+) and major gifts ($25,000+) donors.
  • Develop and implement a variety of stewardship strategies for campaign donors.

In detail, the above campaigns include the following:

  • Identify prospects, conduct necessary research for prospects identified by Board members and volunteers.
  • Coordinate donor and prospect meetings and/or events by developing strategies for each meeting, involving and preparing volunteers, as well as exploring and identifying opportunities that match donors’ interests.
  • Solicit gifts and/or coaching others who may identify as the most appropriate person to ask.
  • Follow up on meetings with correspondence.
  • Document outcomes into the Foundation’s database, Raiser’s Edge, and ensure that all records are up-to-date and accurate.
  • Thank, recognize and steward donors after gifts have been received.
  • Manage events including preparing guest lists, invitations, follow-ups and other event details.

Qualifications and Critical Skills:

  • University degree and/or experience working in the non-profit sector.  In particular, experience working with donors and volunteers at various stages of the development cycle, and ability to advance each of those relationships.
  • Ability to manage major gift pipeline; moving donors efficiently through the process.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise and build relationships with high-level donors, board members and other stakeholders.
  • Natural ability to make ‘the ask’.  Comfortable and enjoys meeting high profile donors.
  • A natural ability to connect with people in a way that inspires and engages potential donors, and creates successful long term relationships.
  • Excellent project management and communications skills with a balance of vision and attention to detail.
  • Very self-motivated, able to multitask and work well independently as well as collaboratively.  Ability to be an innovative, creative thinker and solve problems under tight deadlines and with limited resources.
  • Sport industry knowledge and interest an advantage.
  • Advanced MS Office knowledge (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, Outlook etc) and familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or other CRM software.
  • Goal-oriented, committed, diligent, creative and a go-getter.
