Duties:

Reporting to the Director of Sport, the Sport Consultant, Hosting is accountable to provide policy and program development and implementation related to physical activity, sport and recreation. He/she will provide advice to the Minister and senior management on issues, legislation, regulations, policies and programs related to physical activity, sport and recreation and to community, provincial and national organizations; other governments; and representatives of the physical activity, sport and recreation community. He/she will be responsible for researching and analyzing relevant trends impacting policies and programs.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Master’s preferred) with a minimum 6 years related and diverse experience in the sport sector. The successful candidate must have in-depth knowledge and understanding of community, provincial, national and international trends in sport and physical activity as well as be adept in the concepts of business and strategic planning, policy and project/strategy planning and management. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated ability to prepare well-written policies and briefing notes. The successful candidate must have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of government priorities concerning health promotion and the enhancement, promotion and development of physical activity, sport and recreation strategies, initiatives and partnerships to realize these priorities and goals. This position requires a strategic thinker who has demonstrated the ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and municipal, provincial and federal government officials.

Extensive experience within the Canadian sport system at the national or provincial sport organization level, in a combination of roles as administrator, coach or athlete is preferred. Experience in managing bid processes (including evaluation) of major event and experience in planning and hosting international events or large, national multi-sport events.

Preference will be given to candidates with an awareness of government and a working knowledge of protocol, guidelines involving senior officials, experience in policy development and analysis, program/strategy management and knowledge of financial operational policies as related to program budgeting/accountability.
