Position: Senior Team National Training Centre Coach — Canmore

Biathlon Canada is the national sport organization responsible for both the high performance and domestic aspects of Biathlon in Canada. Its national office is located in Ottawa, Ontario. All personnel (full time or contract) are obligated to facilitate the achievement of the Association’s Strategic Foundation (Mission, Vision, Values and Quadrennial Plan) and are required to operate within the policies and legal obligation of Biathlon Canada as established by the Volunteer Board of Directors, the Executive and its Committees. The National Office is responsible to provide administrative support to all Association activities.

Biathlon Canada is seeking to employ a world-class coach with significant international experience to lead its Senior Elite Program towards the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Summary Description

The Senior Team National Training Centre (STNTC) Coach is responsible for all aspects of the development of senior biathletes capable of achieving world-class performances. In so doing, he/she will orchestrate the physical, psychological and social development of individual athletes within the current training centre program established by Biathlon Canada.

SPECIFIC TASKS (A more detailed job description may be requested from Biathlon Canada)

1. Program Planning and athlete preparation.

The STNTC Coach is responsible for the development, implementation and analysis of the Senior National Training Squad program consistent with the objectives established in the Annual and Quadrennial plans; to include:

1.1. Implementation of the Senior Team Training Centre plan by providing leadership, coaching, technical and program expertise;

1.2. Establish and monitor performance objectives for the athletes assigned to the Senior Team Training Centre program;

1.3. Establish annual and long term plans for the physiological, mental, technical and tactical components of the Senior Team Training Squads;

1.4. Co-ordinate the peripheral program activities for the Senior Team;

1.5. Travel in support of the Senior Team selected to the World Cup and/or other tours throughout the competitive season.

2. Management

The STNTC Coach – Canmore is responsible for the organization and management of training centre projects; to include:

2.1 The financial accounting of training centre activities;

2.2 Preparation of required reports to the High Performance Working Group and the Technical Director as required;

2.3 When required, attend meetings of the High Performance Working Group, the National Association and the Executive ; and

2.4 Promote Biathlon Canada programs to the membership of Biathlon Canada and the public.

Qualification: For Canadian Coaches: Minimum coaching certification Level 4 Biathlon from the National Coaching Certification Program and a minimum of 4 years experience coaching elite level athletes within a full time training centre setting and significant experience at World Cups, World Championships and Olympic Winter Games.

For International Coaches: You must clearly establish your coaching certification (licence) for comparison to Canadian standards. A preference will be given to coaches who have a minimum of 4 years experience with a successful National Federation in a similar position, along with substantial national and international results to demonstrate your accomplishments as a coach.

A candidate of either gender with the required qualifications can fill this position.

Language English required. Second language of French or German will be considered an asset.

Duration: This employment is for 4 years and renewable based on performance. It is conditional to a probationary review period ending March 31, 2007 and is subject to mid-term performance evaluations.

Salary and benefits: Salary and benefits will be in accordance with the established policy of Biathlon Canada. Salary range for this position will be between $50,000 and $65,000 CAD and commensurate with the experience of the successful candidate.
