JEASON TAKES OVER LEAD IN HP WOMEN’S CHALLENGE

June 19, 2002 (POMERELLE, ID) Climbing sensation, Canadian Genevieve
Jeanson of Team Rona gave a lesson in climbing to 87 of the world’s best
women bike racers when she won a pivotal stage (5), the 86 mile St.
Alphonsus Shoshone to Pomerelle (Ski Resort) Road Race in 3 hours, 43
minutes and 10 seconds at the 19th Annual HP WOMEN’S CHALLENGE and took
over the Blue Race Leader Jersey from 2-time HP winner Anna Millward (AUS)
of Team Saturn who finished 17th today, 5 minutes and 35 seconds behind
Jeanson.

Battling for second place in a surprising sprint was last year’s HP
Womenís Challenge overall runner-up, Judith Arndt from Germany riding for
the American based Saturn Team and the last year’s overall HP Womenís
Challenge Champion, Canadian Lyne Bessette of the Canadian National Team.
Winning the sprint for second was Arndt, 1 minute and 3 seconds off
Jeanson’s 23.12 mph pace, followed by Bessette 3 seconds down on Arndt.

Today was the day that Team Rona was hoping they would put the former
Jr. World Road and Time Trial Champion in the Overall Leaderís Jersey with
it’s 15 mile climb to the finish at the Pomerelle ski resort. “It feels
good to be in the jersey (leader’s ) – it was a goal we (Team Rona) worked
for collectively and we accomplished it today,” commented the
2001 Redlands (CA) Bicycle Classic winner with a smile.

Look for Jeanson to gain more time on this World-Class field with it’s
numerous Olympians and World Champions in tomorrow’s Stage 6, the Mesa
Systems 60.7-mile Road Race from Burley to Magic Mountain. The race starts
in front of the Burley Inn at 800 Overland in Burley at 11 am.

The 19th Annual HP WOMENíS CHALLENGE, with a strong international field
(riders from 15 countries) competing for a cash purse of $75,000, is a
9-day, 9-stage International Bicycle Race covering 543 miles throughout
southern Idaho.
