July 25, 2010 (Champery, Switzerland) - The men's race is underway and officials announced that the race was being shortened to six laps from seven including a start loop. It's a big field with 175 riders on the start line with six Canadians led by Geoff Kabush (Team Maxxis-Rocky Mountain)...
Start loop At the front is Florian Vogel (Sui) Scott-Swisspower MTB-Racing followed by RSA's Burry Stander (Specialized) with Switzerland's Nino Schurter (Scott-Swisspower MTB-Racing) close behind.
Lap 1 It's Vogel and Stander with about 10s on Schurter - Kabush is in the mid 20s. Julien Absalon (Fra) Orbea is moving up through the field.
Absalon has caught the leaders and the four are now out front extending their lead...
Lap 2 Absalon is at the front ... behind is Vogel followed by Stander - Schurter dropped back to almost 20s. Canada's Kabush is in the high 20s.
Lap 3 The leaders come thru again with Absalon out front in 40:52 followed by Vogel... Kabush is in 31st behind the USA's Adam Craig (Rabobank-Giant Offroad Team) in 29th.
Absalon has a gap of about 10s on Vogel thru lap 3 with Stander about 8s back followed by Jaroslav Kulhavy (Cze) Rubena-Birell-Specialized Cycling Team now in 4th as Schurter is in 5th.
Lap 4 Absalon is still leading and comes thru in 56:22 but Vogel has made up some ground and is not far back as Absalon was having some problems (mechanical?). Stander is in third at 41s with Kulhavy in 4th and 5th is Schurter...
Absalon has regained his form and is extending his lead on Vogel. Mathias Flückiger (Trek World Racing) has overtaken Schurter in 5th.
Lap 5 Vogel has caught Absalon as the two come thru together to start lap 5... in 3rd and fourth are Kulhavy and Schurter with Flückiger not far back as Stander is now in 6th.
Vogel attacks and has a gap on Absalon... he has a 10-15s lead. And now Kulhavy, Schurter and Flückiger are gaining on Absalon.
Kulhavy has taken over second place with Schurter in third and Flückiger in fourth as Absalon is overtaken.
Lap 6 Final Vogel is out front but Kulhavy is making up ground on him - Schurter and Flückiger are close behind at 10s.
Kulhavy has taken the lead but Vogel is on his wheel. Vogel attacks and is now gaining a lead. Schurter has gapped Flückiger... Stander in 6th and is gaining on Absalon in 5th with Christof Sauser (Sui) Specialized in 7th.
Kulhavy has caught Vogel and has regained the lead... now Vogel has gone to front as the two play cat and mouse with the finish approaching.
Vogel attacks on the final climb and has gapped Kulhavy...
