June 11, 2008 (Ottawa, ON) – Sean O’Donnell, the CCA’s High Performance Manager for the past seven years, sent us the following note announcing his resignation from the CCA to take a position with Sport Canada. O’Donnell has been an integral part of the CCA’s operations on many fronts and will be sorely missed. We join the cycling community in thanking him for his support and wishing him the very best in his future endeavours.

Hi everyone,

As a small number of you have already heard, I recently submitted my resignation to the CCA. I will be working up until July 4 and am leaving to take a position with Sport Canada. After seven years with the CCA, this was a very difficult decision for me to take. My family and I are certainly excited by the opportunity that lies ahead for me.

It has been a privilege for me to work in this office with our staff, to have worked with some outstanding coaches and most importantly to me to have worked with our incredible athletes. I leave with many good friendships and tremendous memories, having been fortunate enough to share in some small way in many of our successes over the last seven years.

Unfortunately, my decision means I will not be on site at the 2008 Olympic Games. My role at the Olympic Games will be filled by Dan Proulx, a cycling coach from Victoria, who has been involved with CCA in the past as a project coach and manager. I have complete confidence in Dan that he will ensure our Olympians have an exceptional level of support on site in Beijing.

As I hope you are aware, the CCA is going through a search right now for a new Chief Technical Officer and hopes to have someone in place this fall. I have agreed to work one-day a week in the office from July 15 — September 30 overseeing the transition and directing some specific initiatives. My position will remain vacant, allowing the new CTO to be involved in the restructuring of the High Performance department within the office. In the interim, please do not hesitate to direct any specific concerns to the National Coaches — Houshang Amiri (Mountain Bike), Tanya Dubnicoff (BMX) and Vincent Jourdain (Road and Para). As well, Mathieu Boucher, Remi Berube and Nicholas Vipond will cover off any administrative duties within the office.

Comme quelque uns de vous a déjà entendu, j’ai récemment soumis ma démission de l’ACC. Je quitterai l’association sur le 4 juillet et je prendrai une position avec Sport Canada. Après sept ans avec l’ACC, il a été une décision très difficile pour moi de prendre. Moi et ma famille sont très excite de la nouveau opportunité qui est devant moi.

Il a été un privilège pour moi de travailler dans ce bureau avec notre staff, d’avoir travaillé avec des entraineurs et surtout d’avoir travaillé avec nos athlètes incroyables. Je quitte avec des bons amis et des bons souvenirs, ayant l’opportunité de partager un peu dans leurs succès au cours des sept dernières années.

Malheureusement, avec cette décision, je ne serai pas capable d’assister les Jeux Olympiques 2008. Ma position sera prise par Dan Proulx, un entraîneur de Victoria qui a été impliqué avec l’ACC dans le passé comme entraîneur et gérant d’équipe. J’ai la confiance en Dan d’assurer que tous nos athlètes assistant les Jeux auront un niveau de soutien exceptionnelle.

J’espère que vous êtes au courant du fait que l’ACC est a ce moment à la recherche d’une nouveau Chef, Sports et Haute Performance et que l’ACC espère avoir quelqu’un en place cette automne. J’ai convient de rester avec l’ACC un jour par semaine pendant le période du 15 juillet jusqu’au 30 septembre, prenant en charge des taches spécifiques pour faciliter la transition avec le nouveau Chef. Ma position restera ouvert pour l’instant jusqu’à la nouveau Chef est engager et lui sera responsable de déterminer comment il veut structurer le département. Dans l’intérim, n’hésite pas de contacter les entraineurs nationaux — Houshang Amiri (MTB), Tanya Dubnicoff (BMX) et Vincent Jourdain (Route et Para). En plus, Mathieu Boucher, Remi Berube et Nicholas Vipond s’occupe de taches administratives dans le bureau pour vous.
