Hamilton Pan Am 2015 Velodrome Update

release by the National Cycling Centre Hamilton

August 12, 2010 (Hamilton, ON) – The Hamilton Velodrome project moved forward in a very positive way on Tuesday, when Hamilton City Council voted to receive a report by the Sierra Group consultants. The report contains a business plan and several recommendations for planning for a velodrome in Hamilton.

Among other things, the report finds that the current budget for the capital cost of the velodrome will not allow for the construction of a permanent facility. Equally as important as the capital budget issue, the report finds that with proper planning, the velodrome can become a financially sustainable facility.

The National Cycling Centre Hamilton (NCCH) has been working diligently on behalf of the cycling community to ensure that the velodrome stays on path to become Canada’s only permanent, world-class, indoor, international standard cycling facility.

Last year, the NCCH completed a comprehensive Feasibility Report on a Velodrome in Hamilton. We are encouraged that the findings of the NCCH and Sierra reports both validate a positive business plan for a velodrome in Hamilton.
