The Grey County Road Race and Time Trial is the sole Canadian and North American stop for the 2016 UCI Gran Fondo World Series (formerly the UCI World Cycling Tour), which includes a total of 14 worldwide events. Participants who finish in the top 25% of their age category will qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Series Finals and an opportunity to compete for the coveted World Champion rainbow jersey.  The 2016 UGFWS Finals will be hosted by Perth, Australia from Sept 1-4; 2017 Finals have been awarded to Albi, France.

The Time Trial on May 27th will be based out of Thornbury Ontario, featuring a 33.4km looping course that includes 387meters of elevation gain. The Time Trial is limited to 250 riders based on road permit time constraints so be sure to register early.

Blue Mountain Village will be the base for all activities following the Time Trial. The Road Race on May 29th features a challenging and beautiful newly paved climb up Scenic Caves Road. The road course has been designed to feature all of the best qualities that the region has to offer, with spectacular vistas including the view over Georgian Bay, as well as roads through the orchards. Riders may also be met by strong winds which are prevalent atop the 300-meter-high escarpment making any attempts to venture out beyond the shelter of the peloton truly heroic.

There are two distance for the road race based on age group:

  • Full Course: 135kms with 2197meters of elevation gain
  • Short Course: 90.5kms with 1477 meters of elevation gain
