April 8, 2009 (Ottawa, ON) – The Canadian Cycling Association announced Wednesday that veteran sport administrator Greg Mathieu of Ottawa has been named the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer and Secretary General. Mathieu brings 28 years experience in sport administration to the CCA. Since 1993 he was Executive Director for the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association. Under his leadership, CAWA earned unprecedented success hosting several key international events while its athletes stepped on the podium at every Olympics between 1996 and 2008.

“This opportunity to be part of the CCA as it embarks on its strategic directions for the next four years and beyond is very exciting,” said Mathieu. “In every sport and association there are unique cultures and challenges that need to be understood and appreciated in addition to learning about the passionate personalities that drive the sport. I look forward to becoming familiar with all of these in the near future in order that I may contribute to the association meeting its vision and mandate over the long term.”

From 1980 to 1992, Mathieu worked for the Canadian Olympic Association (now the Canadian Olympic Committee). He was the Director of Operations from 1982 to 1992 and Manager, Games Missions from 1980-82.

“Greg’s experience and expertise will allow the CCA to progress in developing and strengthening relationships with our key partners, the provincial cycling organizations, Sport Canada and Podium Canada,” said John Tolkamp, the CCA’s President. “Greg will also be instrumental in providing leadership in the CCA’s restructuring of the high performance program so we can reach our high performance objectives.”

Mathieu replaces Lorraine Lafrenière who leaves after two years with the CCA and oversaw the return to financial viability and the administrative restructuring of the Association.

“Under Lorraine’s leadership the key components of our organization thrived,” said Tolkamp. “This includes benefiting from the Podium Canada program to reach our performance targets, implementing the National Team Ethics and Code of Conduct, and building support for our stakeholders.”

Greg Mathieu nommé DG et secrétaire général de l’Association cycliste canadienne

April 8, 2009 (Ottawa, ON) – L’Association cycliste canadienne a annoncé, mecredi, que le vétéran administrateur sportif Greg Mathieu, d”šOttawa, a été nommé le nouveau directeur général et secrétaire général de l’organisation.

Mathieu apporte 28 ans d”šexpérience dans l’administration sportive à l’ACC. Depuis 1993 il a été directeur administrative de l’Association canadienne de lutte amateur. Sous sa direction, l’ACLA a obtenu des succès sans précédent en organisant plusieurs compétitions internationales importantes pendant que ses athlètes sont montés sur le podium à tous les Jeux olympiques entre 1996 et 2008.

«Cette occasion de faire partie de l’ACC alors qu”šelle entreprend ses directions stratégiques pour les quatre prochaines années et après est très excitante, a dit Mathieu. Dans chaque sport et association il y a des cultures et des défis uniques qui doivent être compris et appréciés en plus de découvrir les personnalités passionnées qui poussent le sport. J”šai hâte de me familiariser avec tout cela dans un avenir rapproché pour que je puisse contribuer à ce que l’association respecte sa vision et son mandat à long terme.»

De 1980 à 1992, Mathieu a travaillé pour l’Association olympique canadienne (maintenant le Comité olympique canadien). Il a été directeur des opérations de 1982 à 1992 et gérant, Missions des Jeux, de 1980 à 1982.

«L’expérience et l’expertise de Greg permettront à l’ACC de progresser pour développer et renforcer les liens avec nos principaux partenaires, les organisations provinciales de cyclisme, Sport Canada et Podium Canada, a dit John Tolkamp, président de l’ACC. Greg jouera aussi un rôle important pour apporter du leadership dans la restructuration du programme de haute performance de l’ACC pour que nous puissions atteindre nos objectifs de haute performance.»

Mathieu remplace Lorraine Lafrenière, qui part après deux ans avec l’ACC et qui a supervisé le retour à la viabilité financière et la restructuration administrative de l’Association.

«Sous le leadership de Lorraine, les éléments importants de notre organisation se sont développés, a dit Tolkamp. Cela comprend capitaliser sur le soutien apporté par le programme Podium Canada pour atteindre nos objectifs, implanter les codes d”šÃ©thique et de conduite de l’équipe nationale et bâtir le soutien pour nos parties prenantes.»
