April 10, 2009 – Planet Energy’s Andrew Randell won Saturday’s Ontario Cup # 1, the 92.5km Good Friday road race, an Ontario tradition staged by the Hamilton Cycling Club with team mate Ryan Roth in second. An early break of five riders in the the 5-lap race had a lead of up to 2 minutes forcing the peloton to react on lap three and the break was caught. But soon after another break of about 20 riders formed and on the final lap Randell and Roth lead the charge to the finish for the 1-2 victory with Derrick St. John (Ride With Randell) in third.

Emma Petersen (Team Ultralink) took the win in the women’s 74km race over Heather Logan (Colavita/Sutter Homes) in second and Kaitlin Michener (Independent) in 3rd.
