Gold for Canada\’s Tandem Riders Cowie and Smibert at BT Paralympic World Cup

May 26, 2009 (Manchester, Great Britain) РPara-cyclists Brian Cowie and Devon Smibert won Gold on the third day of the BT Paralympic World Cup, held in Manchester, Great Britain. The tandem team won the 4km Pursuit by nearly 2 seconds, over the Netherlands, with Ireland finishing third. At the same event, Brayden McDougall posted a personal best, breaking his Paralympics Games result by two seconds. As for Jean Qu̩villon, he just missed his personal best time, posted at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing by only a few tenths of a second.

Following the World Cup, the team competed at the Wales Grand Prix and showed great improvements. Posting personal best times in the kilo were Quévillon and McDougall. Éric Bourgault posted a second best time and came back with valuable experience on the track.

Canada’s paracyclists are now looking forward to the national team training camp, being held in Bromont, QC, from June 7-14. Information related to the camp will be posted shortly.
