GiroDonne 2005 – Starts July 1/05

June 27, 2005 – Palazzo Marino hosted the introduction of the 16th edition of GiroDonne, the most important international cycling competition for women after the world championships.

The official presentation was held in Milan’s town hall on June 22, 2005
for the GiroDonne, the women’s international cycling tour of Italy.

Many notable players attended the event including Aldo Brandirali Milan,
Public Functionary for Sports and Leisure who welcomed the many guests.
Italian Cycling Federation President Renato Di Rocco represented the
athletes, and the main T.V Network, RAI SPORT, represented by “the voice”
of the woman Giro, Lorenzo Roata, reported the event.

The GiroDonne will primarily be a sprinter tour. But, as Vera Carrara, who
recently won the track gold medal in the women’s points race at the Los
Angeles Track Worlds commented, there will be some surprises. She added
“there will be a huge selection at the first stepping hills near Mantova,
but the true race will start at the Cirié-San Francesco al Campo stage
(TURIN), and mainly, at the Briga (Swiss stage) – Domodossola stage with
the 23km climb”

“The Giro arrival in Milan is a true honor for the town,” Mr. Brandirali
commented. “Milan will certainly welcome the women’s Giro as it did for
their male colleagues.”

“Our women’s team have always given the Italian Federation great
satisfaction,” President Di Rocco commented, “and we are committed to
support them and their efforts, trying to promote the best of women’s
cycling.”

The GiroDonne will be taking place on July 1-9, 2005, starting in San Vendemmiano (TV) and finishing in Milan.
