Giro d’Italia Stage 3 Results – Gaviria Takes Surprise Win and Maglia Rosa, Canada’s Woods 85th

May 07, 2017 – Fernando Gaviria (Col) Quick-Step Floors grabbed the victory on the 148km Stage 3 from Tortoli to Cagliari for his first Giro stage victory and debut in the maglia rosa as well.

A small group of escapees led by Bob Jungels (Quick-Step Floors) made good around the 10km to go mark during the windswept stage and fractured near the end but held off the charging peloton. Rüdiger Selig (Ger) Bora-Hansgrohe was second and Giacomo Nizzolo (Ita) Trek-Segafredo was third.

Canada’s Michael Woods (Can) Cannondale-Drapac finished safely in 85th while fellow Canuck Svein Tuft (Can) Orica-Scott finished 107th on the day working for his team.
