Netherlands) – Tom Dumoulin (Ned) Team Giant-Alpecin gave the hometown crowds the win they wanted on the 9.8km Stage 1 ITT in Apeldoorn with a nail-biting performance winning by one hundredth of a second, as the Giro d’Italia got underway today. Svein Tuft (Orica GreenEdge) led the three Canadians on the start line in 25th as Primož Roglic (Slo) Team LottoNl-Jumbo claimed 2nd and Andrey Amador Bikkazakova (Crc) Movistar Team finished 3rd. The Netherland’s King Willem-Alexander was the first to congratulate Dumoulin on his victory.
