Canuel 7th Overall @ Giro d’Italia Internazionale Femminile – Stages 3, 4 and 5 Report, Results, Photos

July 04, 2017 (Sant’Elpidio a Mare, Italy) – Canada’s Karol-Ann Canuel (Boels-Dolmans)  sits 7th overall after finishing 10th in the 12.73km TT on Stage 5. The talented Quebec rider made history donning the maglia rosa following her team’s victory in the TTT on Stage 1. Also racing is Alison Jackson (Can) BePink Cogeas in 73rd overall. Here’s a brief recap of the last three stages.

Karol-Ann Canuel (Can) Boels Dolmans Cyclingteam - Stage 5 [P] Cor Vos

After finishing 45th on Stage 3 from San Fior to San Vendemiano, 100km, Canuel maintained her 7th place overall position on the General Classification. The stage was won by Hannah Barnes (Canyon SRAM Racing) in a bunch sprint, while Anna Van Der Breggen (Boels – Dolmans) continued to lead the GC.

The  118km Stage 4 in Occhiobello again saw a bunch sprint, with Belgian Jolien D’Hoore (Wiggle High5) taking the win ahead of Aussie Chloe Hosking (Ale Cipollini) in second and American Coryn Rivera (Team Sunweb) in third. Jackson finished 25th while Canuel was 56th still in 7th overall with her team mate Van Der Breggen in the leader’s jersey.

In the 12.73 kilometre time trial on Stage 5 Annemiek van Vleuten (Ned) Orica Scott claimed the win by 41 seconds over van der Breggen, who held on to the leader’s jersey, with Elisa Longo Borghini (Ita) Wiggle High5 in 3rd. Canuel put in a solid day at the office claiming 10th with Jackson 95th.
