Giant Bicycles Canada Team Update

August 21, 2004 – Canadian National series #4.
The Giant Canada downhill team just returned home from the last Canadian
National series race in Fernie, BC. The August 15th weekend proved to be
a success for our team as three riders turned in podium finishing race
runs!

The unstoppable Danika Schroeter continued with her dominating ways and
easily beat her competition. After last weekends close race where Danika
won by only three seconds, she stomped the field this weekend by besting
the second place rider by an amazing 26.35 seconds! Wow!

Unlike last weekend, this course was a true downhill race course, no easy
berms to keep speed, no smooth pedaling sections and the riders actually
had to use their brakes. Danika showed everyone that as the courses get
tougher she only gets faster.

On the men’s side, Giant Canada’s Brant Lyon, having his usual late season
surge, only gets faster with each consecutive race. Looking to repeat
his victory here from last season, Brant put in a spectacular race and
finished up in second place, beating many great riders such as USA’s
Shaums March and the reigning National Champion Mathieu Laurin. Giant
Canada’s Eric Goss also threw down a great race run and was only two seconds
off of Brant’s time in fifth place. In some sections of the course the top
Pro men were reaching speeds around 80 km per hour!

August 6, 2004 – B.C. Cup Downhill #4: High above Harrison Lake, in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, lies Hemlock Valley Resort, host to the latest round of the British Columbia Provincial Downhill series.

Giant Canada’s Brant Lyon seems to be slowly increasing his strangle hold on the Provincial series overall. Brant put in a typical Brant Lyon race run – fast- and walked away with another first place podium finish for the Giant Canada team beating top US rider Shaums March by two seconds.

Giant Bicycles Canada Team Update

May 21, 2004 – Two weekends ago Giant Canada’s Danika Schroeter competed in B.C.’s inaugural 4X series where four riders go head-to-head on a downhill/bmx style track. The event was held at the Pipeline Bike Park in Coquitlam, British Columbia where Danika quickly got the track dialed and was winning the majority of her races as well as the finals. According to the Cycling BC website, “Tyson McCrea (Fox Canada) and Danika Schroeter (Giant Canada) made history at the first SISU BC CUP 4X event of the season. Not just because they won their first 4X event, but because the race marked the first stand-alone 4X event held in B.C. and maybe even Canada!”

The mountain bike movement continues to grow at a blistering pace everywhere in Canada, and especially here in B.C. with new events and city-sanctioned bike parks springing up in communities everywhere.

As you read this, the Giant Canada Team is practicing the downhill course in Bromont, Quebec. This coming weekend marks the first Canadian National Downhill race of the year. Watch for more updates about Giant Canada’s results after the weekend.

Giant Bicycles Canada Team Update

May 10, 2004 – Here is Giant Canada's Race update. May. 2. 2004: At the end of last season, Giant Canada's Brant Lyon finished off the season with a string of first, second and third place finishes. This year proves to be no different, as Brant seems to have started off exactly were he wants to be. winning races! Brant soundly beat the Pro men's field by 5 seconds at the season opener Vancouver Island Cup Downhill race. Brant's next race will be the second race in the Vancouver Island Cup series this coming May 16 th.

April 18. 2004 Giant Canada's newest rider, Danika Schroeter, made her way down to the Hyundai Sea Otter Classic mountain bike race in Monterey, California to race against some of the World's best female riders. Schroeter finished up with a solid 11 th place finish in the Pro women's downhill, being the highest placing rider to finish on a downhill bike on the fitness orientated course. Schroeter was only five seconds out of the top five, quite possibly with a lighter and smaller dual-style suspension bike like her competitors Danika might of bridged that 5-second gap.

Training update. Giant Canada's Eric Goss has spent the last week at the Bromont, Quebec National team training center doing multiple downhill runs everyday. Eric will be joined out in Bromont, Quebec soon by his teammates for the first Canadian National series race this coming May 22-23.
