by John Symon
September 18, 2014 (Quebec City, QC) – A funeral was held on Tuesday for Guy Blouin, a Quebec City resident who was struck and killed by a police car while riding a bicycle on September 3. According to witnesses, Blouin was riding his bicycle the wrong way on a one-way street in the economically-depressed St. Roch neighbourhood when the incident happened, apparently after police attempted to question him in a local park.
According to reports, the police cruiser backed up and collided with Blouin, 48 and he died later the same day of his injuries. Some versions say that police ran over the man twice and inappropriately removed his bike but later returned it. Tensions remain high between residents of the lower class neighbourhood and municipal police.About 100 people turned out for Blouin’s funeral on Tuesday. An investigation of the incident has now been confided to the provincial police force, the Sureté du Québec.
