Forest City Velodrome Saturday Night Racing Report

May 30, 2005 — What a night of racing at the Velodrome on Saturday night. First women to win a Madison, rookie racer dominates the London Track League, and the Masters division keeps getting stronger.

Winterborne Custom Cycles sponsored the racing at the Velodrome in London, Ontario on Saturday night and during the evening Jay Filer, owner of Winterborne Cycles, made the draw for the custom made track bike. We had been selling tickets on the bike since March and the winner of the bike was Keith Macdonald of Toronto. Keith was at the track earlier in the day to take the Learn to Ride Clinic. Congratulations to Keith and thank you to everyone who purchased tickets, the funds accumulated will go to our children’s and youth programs during the summer.

In racing action, a very competitive 4-team Madison event took place, with no team gaining a lap, the final standings were determined by the points accumulated during the four events which made up the racing. The team of Maogosha Pryjor (Toronto) & Adam Thuss (Stratford) won the very tight last sprint of the night for double points to capture the win. Pryjor, who has only competed in her second Madison event, became the first woman to win a Madison in recent memory. The Blue Team of Taylor Martin and junior Vince DeJong were just nipped at the line to finish second.

In London Track League action, Andy Fell (Kitchener) dominated the evening’s events. Fell who has only been to the track once before put the hurt to all the riders in both of the endurance races during the evening. Simon Dearing (London) & Jim Henning (Guelph) competed all night for 2nd as Fell was off the front most of the night. Dearing another new rider at the Velodrome managed to get two second-place finishes with Henning finishing a very respectable 3rd in the 30 & 50 lap races.

Fell came up a little short in the Sprint race at the end of the night with Dearing winning his first event of the evening and Henning nipping Fell for second at the line. In the B division Veteran 6-day racer Rene Kosko (Montreal) out-sprinted Terry Dethridge (Brantford) & Kelly Williams (Brantford) in the evening ending Sprint race.

Racing continues this weekend at the Forest City Velodrome in London, 7pm start time on Saturday June 4th. The London Track League and Nas-track Madison League will be in competition. The sponsor this weekend is the Bicycle Shop in Brantford Ontario.
