April 8, 2007 (London, Ont.) – Ah, the beauty of an indoor velodrome! While the road racing season started with cold winds, snow and generally poor weather conditions, the riders and spectators attending the FCV Saturday Night races were warm and dry.
A number of newbies were riding, which made up for the absence of many of the regulars, who apparently were still recuperating from the six-day the previous weekend or still trying to get warm at home after Friday’s road race.
Next race: April 21 @ 7:00pm

Forest City Velodrome Results
May 28, 2006 – At the Forest City Velodrome in London Keith Thorarison took home the honours for fastest time last night in the flying lap event with a blistering 8.69 seconds.
John Huston of Aylmer swept all 3 of the master events while Brianne Rupay of Peterborough captured 3 of the 4 Velo-kids events. Vince DeJong won both 5 team madison events, the first with partner Stephen Meyer of Dorchester and the second with Ryan Crawford of London. The highlight of the night was the introduction of keirin racing behind the motorbike as part of the Madison Team Race event. Racing continues next Saturday, June 3 at 7pm.
What a great night of racing at the Forest City Velodrome on Saturday
night. 5 evenly matched Madison teams attacked one another in the first 30
minute event. At half time where we usually have a sprint for points,
however with the help of 2 of our instructors in our Learn to Ride
sessions, Eddy Pol (for the donation) and Magnus Graham (upgrades) we were
able to have a Derny on the track to do the pacing for the Keirin events.
The riders were all pumped up as the Keirins until now have been paced by
another cyclist on a track or road bike. With the added noise of a motor
the crowd got into the fun and the first heat was off, Taylor Martin to up
first position behind the Derny, with the battle for position from second
on back. With 31/2 to go and a speed of 50kph the Derny pealed off the
track to let the Boys open up their legs. Junior Vince DeJong jumped over
the top but both Martin on pole and second wheel Ryan Crawford would not
let DeJong complete the pass for the lead. At the line Martin won easily
with DeJong just pipping Crawford at the line.
In the second Keirin, Keith Thoranson won easily as the rest of the riders
battled out for 2nd.
The Madison Ultimately comes down to the final sprint. The Yellow Team of
DeJong and Steve Meyer (Juniors) attacked with 5 to go and immediately
opened a gap on the other teams who were making their last exchange.
However the fast combo of Thoranson and Mike Reeneboog closed the gap and
with 1/2 a lap to go went over the top to claim Victory.
Steve Meyer (Junior) from Dorchester out sprinted Dave St James in the
final of the Miss & Out, this was Steve’s first victory at the Velodrome in
a Senior event, Well done Steve.
Racing in the London Track league was fast and furious as 10 year old
Brianne Rupay won all 3 heats of the Velo-Kids Keirin, and new comer John
Hueston from Aylmer won all 3 scratch races for the “A” group.
Racing continues Saturday June 3rd at 7pm.
Velodrome is having an “OPEN HOUSE” for family, friends, and interested
spectators beginning at Noon, June 3rd. All proceeds will go to our
programs for the Fall and Winter at the Indoor Velodrome.
