Forest City Six Day Returns This Weekend

October 27, 2005 – The London 6 day team race returns to the Forest City Velodrome this weekend with the last half of the 6 Day competition.

Riders from across Canada are participating in the event. Five Teams of two riders, speed around the 138m track at up to 68 kph The teams make exchanges like “short track speed skating” in an attempt to lap their opponents. This is the first 6 Day race in Ontario in 35 years.

The Red Waterloo Team of Adam Thuss & rg have the lead going into the final weekend. The Delhi Team of Vince DeJong (Jr) and Eric “Sleepy” Robertson are holding onto second position by the slimmest of margins. Team Vancouver, Keith Thorarison & Dave ” no hands” St. James are tied with the Hamilton team of Taylor Martin & Garnett Abbey with the London Team of John Craig Jr and Jean “Bermuda” Bertrand only 1 point behind in 5th.

The action should be hot & heavy all weekend with 3 x 30 Madison Team Races, including “Sprints” and “Devils” on the card each night for the Teams, anything can happen. The London Track League and Velo-Kids will also be racing all weekend.

If you have heard about the Velodrome, but have not been out to witness an event, I promise you will be on the edge of your seat, all night long. Plan on attending at least one night of the 6 Day competition.

Racing begins at 7pm Friday & Saturday nights, Sunday afternoon at 2pm will be the last most exciting night of the event. Riders getting tired, teams missing exchanges, and the possibility of a team gaining a lap and winning the race.

Adult admission is $10.00, Seniors $5.00, Children under 16 are “FREE”
